As we embark
On a year-long holiday
To recuperate
To rejuvenate
And to reciprocate
The bounteous love of God

The Sabbath of Sabbaths
Offering and receiving
Forgiveness
And living simply
That others may simply live too
Intervene in our affairs, Dear Lord
As we announce
A general amnesty
For offenders and transgressors
Prisoners and detainees
Urging them to sin no more.
Intervene in our affairs, dear Lord
As we observe
A moratorium
On all anger and vengeance
A cessation
To all oppression and exploitation
And a cease fire
Between warring parties
Urging them to sheathe their swords
And bury the dead
Along with their hatchets
Intervene in our affairs, dear Lord
As we sound the trumpet
Throughout the land
Proclaiming liberty
To all people
And announcing restoration
To all creation
Intervene in our affairs, dear Lord
As we celebrate the jubilee of Jesus
With the preaching of forgiveness
Healing, reconciliation
Thanksgiving and praise.
